Dirt Pudding

This recipe is based on the first five or so recipes that showed up on a Google search for "recipe dirt pudding". Because I always tweak recipes to my liking (both ingredient & process tweaking), here is what I did.

All ingredients came from Aldi. I have 2 mixing bowls for my Kitchen-Aid mixer and this recipe uses both of them.

Ingredients

2 pkg Oreo type cookies
2 pkg instant chocolate pudding mix
2 pkg instant vanilla pudding mix
7 cups milk
2 8-oz pkg cream cheese
2 pkg Cool Whip type whipped topping
2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Chill (2) mixing bowls & beater in refrigerator or freezer in preparation for step 3.
  2. Grate 1-1/2 rows of Oreos in food processor. Dump into bottom of 5-quart bucket. (Bucket also came from Aldi - it is the purchase as a bucket o' ice cream.)
  3. Whip 3-1/2 cups of milk using chilled bowl & beater. When whipped milk forms peaks, add 2 pkg chocolate pudding. Whip for at least 2 minutes more. Throw bowl in refrigerator.
  4. In 2nd bowl, cream together 8 oz cream cheese & 1 cup powdered sugar. Once blended, add 1 pkg Cool Whip. Mixing the items in this order will make sure the mix is creamy smooth. Otherwise, there will be tiny cream cheese lumps in the mix. Throw bowl in refrigerator.
  5. Once pudding is stiff, add pudding to cream cheese mixture & blend. Crush 1/2 row of Oreos in food processor and blend into pudding/cream cheese mixture. Once blended, dump into 5-qt bucket on bed of crushed Oreos.
  6. Lick, then wash out bowls & beater and dry. Put back in refrigerator to chill them in preparation for step 8.
  7. Grate 1-1/2 rows of Oreos in food processor. Dump on top of chocolate pudding mixture. Put bucket in refrigerator.
  8. Start again, this time with vanilla pudding. Whip 3-1/2 cups of milk using chilled bowl & beater. When whipped milk forms peaks, add 2 pkg vanilla pudding. Whip for at least 2 minutes more. Throw bowl in refrigerator.
  10. Once pudding is stiff, add pudding to cream cheese mixture & blend. Crush 1/2 row of Oreos in food processor and blend into pudding/cream cheese mixture. Once blended, dump into 5-qt bucket on bed of crushed Oreos.
  11. Grate 1-1/2 rows of Oreos in food processor. Dump on top of vanilla pudding mixture. Put bucket in refrigerator.
  12. Most recipes will tell you to adorn this with Gummi worms, spiders, etc. I personally don't do this, but by all means, go ahead if you want to. My mom doesn't agree with this, but here's my opinion: Recipes are only a guideline. Do what you want!
  13. Refrigerate overnight. This mix can also be frozen - when frozen, it is about the consistency of medium to soft ice cream - easy to scoop, but hard enough to hold its shape. I don't know what happens to the consistency if it fully thaws. (Does it separate? Get grainy? Or is it just fine? If anyone tries this, please let me know (email webmaster@zlosk.com) and I will update this recipe.)
  14. This will make slightly more than fits in the 5-qt bucket. Throw the extra back in the mixing bowl. Grate the final 1/2 row of Oreos and mix it in. Eat. (Come on, you've got to make sure it tastes good before you serve it to others, right?)
